Active Metal Brazing

Active metal brazing is a joining process used to join two or more metal components together using a third material, called the filler metal or braze alloy. In traditional brazing processes, the filler metal melts and flows into the joint through capillary action when heated, creating a strong bond upon solidification. Active metal brazing differs from conventional brazing in that it involves the use of an active filler metal that forms a chemical bond with the base metals being joined.
Active metal brazing offers several advantages over conventional brazing methods, including the ability to join dissimilar metals, superior strength and reliability of joints, and improved resistance to thermal and mechanical stresses. It is commonly used in various industries, including aerospace, automotive, electronics, and medical devices, for applications requiring high-performance, hermetic seals, or joints with precise dimensional control.
